Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Act 2025
With the introduction of the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Act 2025 on August 1, 2026, Freestone’s Transport was prepared with a thorough education process for all Management, covering the amendment to law.
This was achieved with the assistance of Freestone’s long-running partnership with the Victoria Transport Association (VTA). Its industrial relations division provided comprehensive webinars and in-person education seminars in the month’s leading up to the August 1 date.
Management then proceeded with a driver-education system successfully rolled out in July, including reminders of driver rights and responsibilities reflected in on-board technology and with a physical written agreement and acknowledgment of the changes to law signed by all driving staff and management.
Freestone’s Transport National Operations Manager Andrew Besnard says the transition was well adopted and is a reflection of the company’s commitment to its customers.
“Our drivers are committed to excellence and understood the changes and the importance in digesting what those changes reflected—for their own safety and for the safety of all road users.
“What we achieved was a cohesive education process, from senior management, through to operations management and to the driver cohort.
“This enabled all of us to know where we stand within the law, and for our valuable freight-forwarding partners to feel assured that we have done all we can to maintain safety and excellent systems management in this regard,” he said.
The calm and systematic process-driven systems built over decades enabled a lawfully robust and smooth transition for the Freestone’s Transport team and its valued freight-forwarding partners.
